Paediatric osteopathy

Listening to the family, respecting your child’s pace

Every child is different. That is why osteopathic care for children begins by listening to the family and considering the child’s age, development and reason for the visit.

At my practice in Palafrugell, I want to understand what you have noticed, how your child is feeling and what advice you have received from their paediatrician. From there, we can assess whether hands-on care is appropriate for your child.

When should you seek an assessment?

You can contact me if you have questions about how your child moves or have noticed discomfort during their usual activities.

During our first conversation, I would like to understand:

  • What you have noticed and when it began.

  • Whether it affects movement, play, rest or other activities.

  • Whether the discomfort began after a fall or an impact.

  • What assessments and recommendations you have received.

If you notice pain, difficulty moving, a persistent preference for one position or an asymmetry, it is important to discuss this with your child’s paediatrician. Their assessment will help guide care and determine whether paediatric physiotherapy or another intervention is needed.

What happens during the consultation?

We begin by discussing your concerns and your child’s health history. I then observe their movements and, where appropriate, carry out an examination adapted to their age.

Before any hands-on contact, I explain what I propose to do and ask for consent from a parent or legal guardian. I also pay attention to your child’s willingness to participate and how they express comfort or refusal.

The session proceeds calmly, with breaks whenever needed. If your child shows discomfort or does not want to continue, we stop the examination and decide together how to proceed.

Does a baby need an osteopathic check after birth?

A caesarean section, a prolonged labour or the use of forceps or a ventouse does not, on its own, mean that a baby needs osteopathic treatment.

If you have concerns, discuss them with your paediatrician. Any decision about complementary care should depend on your baby’s condition and the assessment they have received.

Every pregnancy and birth is different. My intention is to listen and offer respectful support, without judging your family’s circumstances or decisions.

Care adapted to each stage

Babies, young children and teenagers have different needs. Before suggesting any technique, I consider their age, individual situation and the available alternatives.

Evidence for the benefits of osteopathy in many childhood conditions is limited or insufficient. This care does not replace paediatric follow-up or treatment recommended by other professionals.

I do not perform spinal manipulation or mobilisation on babies. If I believe your child needs another assessment, I will explain why.

Would you like to ask a question before booking?

Send me a message with your child’s age and the reason for your enquiry. I will let you know whether I can help or whether you should consult another professional first.
